Historical Internship Program
The Internship in Historical Preservation at The University of West Alabama is designed to give undergraduate and graduate students first-hand experience in the preservation of historical documents and artifacts. The purpose of the course is to give students a better understanding of the care of antiques and historical collections. Interns spend at least five hours a week working with the Alabama Historical Commission Site Directors at Magnolia Grove in Greensboro and at Gaineswood in Demopolis. The objectives of the course include providing the student with first-hand experience in the care and preservation of historical documents and collections, introducing the student to the practice of cataloguing historical artifacts, and giving the student experience in processing historical manuscript collections.
